Local secondary substations
Robust power supplies for the digitisation of existing and the design of new secondary substations
The digitisation of infrastructure is currently one of the biggest challenges for network operators. Thousands of new secondary substations need to be planned and installed – at the same time, existing substations need to be modernised through retrofitting. Compact and robust PULS solutions ensure the reliable power supply and protection of the components required for the construction or retrofitting of smart substations (e.g. IoT gateways, measuring transducer).
Distribution network and metering point operation
Power supply solutions for the efficient and reliable operation of measuring devices and gateways
Future-proof measuring devices and communication equipment, as well as secure gateway technology, connect all participants in the electrical grid – from households, through distribution network operators, to energy producers. The components in modern grid management systems are based on reliable power supply solutions. PULS offers corresponding solutions.
Remote control technology
Controlled operation and analysis from a distance thanks to power supplies with remote access.
Remote control technology is a part of the grid control systems. The focus is on monitoring and controlling spatially remote substations in the electrical grid. Power supplies and DC UPS systems that can be controlled via remote access are ideally suited to ensure the maintenance of system functions even in the event of power failures or mains fault.
Power plant controllers
Reliable power supplies and DC UPS for grid-compliant feed-in management.
Power plant controllers are developed for large photovoltaic and wind power plants. They ensure that the generated energy is fed into the electrical grid according to the grid requirements. The controllers ensure that grid stability is not compromised when there is an overproduction of renewable energy. Uninterruptible power supply is one of the minimum requirements for a power plant controller. PULS offers suitable standard solutions for this kind of application from stock.
Challenges
in the electrical grid
Challenges of modern electrical grids
The electrical grid must be adapted to the increasingly flexible energy flow. Uneven situations in power consumption and generation, higher loads, and the feed-in of decentralised electricity cause voltage fluctuations. Load peaks with unknown simultaneity factors are a major challenge.
Challenges in the modern electrical grid:
- Unclear load flows
- Load flow reversal
- High volatility due to renewable energies
- Increasing demand due to electromobility
- Extreme weather conditions
Solutions
for the DC supply in the electrical grid
IP20 power supplies
Robust DC supply
For the modernisation and improvement of the efficiency and safety of electrical systems in the electrical grid, PULS offers compact and reliable IP20 power supplies with a power range from 15 W to 960 W.
The range includes robust and future-proof solutions for industrial single-phase and three-phase systems as well as DC/DC converters. These power supplies can be easily mounted on the DIN rail and are ready for immediate use.
DC UPS and buffer modules
Reliable power supply protection
Our DC UPS and battery modules support preventive measures to seamlessly bridge even longer power outages.
Buffer modules also ensure safe operation in electrical grids by compensating for voltage fluctuations caused by renewable energy sources. They bridge outages in the millisecond range, thus ensuring a continuously stable DC supply for increasingly sensitive systems such as controllers, sensors, and gateways.
Value-added system solutions
Modifications and custom solutions
With the Value-Added System Solutions, you get a tailored power supply in a short time and very cost-efficient. PULS adapts proven standard power supplies and combines them with special modules from its subsidiary PULS Vario if needed.
The Value-Added System offers numerous advantages: The development time is significantly shorter than with purely custom projects, which reduces costs. The solution is based on proven circuit designs that meet the highest technological standards. Additionally, you benefit from the first-class series quality of our standard power supplies.
The graphic shows a buffered power supply system for supplying a gateway used in a local secondary substations. For this purpose, the temperature range of the 60 W power supply (PIM60.245) was extended to -25 °C to 70 °C without derating. Additionally, a compact buffer module with the same temperature range was newly developed.
