PISA-M electronic circuit breakers: New NEC Class 2 compliant variants available

PULS introduces new 4-channel electronic circuit breakers designed specifically for power distribution in NEC Class 2 circuits, expanding the existing PISA-M series.

PISA-M enables the safe distribution of load current into four individual Class 2 circuits. This offers a cost-effective alternative to multiple individually approved NEC Class 2 compliant power supplies, reducing both acquisition costs and efforts for installation and system approval. If more than four circuits are needed, multiple PISA-M modules can be connected to a power supply.

Depending on the requirements, two PISA-M variants with NEC Class 2 are available:

  • PISA-M-4CL2 automatically adjusts the tripping currents depending on the required voltage. With an output current of 3.75 A per channel at 24 V (max. 92 W) and 4.85 A per channel at 12 V (max. 60 W), the maximum output power always remains within the safe range and just below the specified NEC Class 2 limits.
  • PISA-M-402 allows the distribution of a fixed low output current of 2 A per channel at 24 V (max. 48 W) and 12 V (max. 24 W). This module is therefore ideal for sensitive loads with low current requirements, such as sensors.

Both models feature automatic voltage detection, making them flexible and easy to integrate into 12 V or 24 V systems. All features have been integrated into a slim polycarbonate housing with a width of only 22.5 mm, making PISA-M the smallest electronic circuit breaker with four channels on the market. Thanks to its compact design, PISA-M fits into any system, saving valuable space in the control cabinet.

The NEC Class 2 compliant electronic circuit breakers PISA-M will be available with UL approval from March 2025 and can be obtained directly from PULS and authorized distributors.

New power supply with IO-Link interface and integrated display introduced

Our new CP20.248-IOL is a highly reliable 24 Vdc DIN rail power supply. The device provides efficient and time-saving configuration, operation monitoring and remote control. Using the built-in IO-Link interface and the front panel display, user-defined power supply and application data, such as the AC and DC quality of the system, can be monitored in real-time, allowing any operating changes required to be made to the system in good time. The power supply may also be switched on and off remotely.

The combination of the IO-Link communication interface and display offers high flexibility. Remote-controlled automation operations via IO-Link and on-site analysis by a technician are simple and quick to implement.

Technologically, the CP20.248-IOL is based on the proven DIMENSION CP20 series, which has sold millions of units. Popular features such as permanent 20 % BonusPower at temperatures up to 45 °C, active power factor correction (PFC) and electronic inrush current limitation have been retained. Additionally, the power supply is very energy-efficient with a peak efficiency of 95.5 % and emits only minimal power losses.

The slim design, with a width of only 48 mm, has been maintained despite the additional communication features. The power supply fits perfectly into confined control cabinets and, thanks to its low weight of 835 g, puts only minimal stress on the DIN rail.

“With the CP20.248-IOL, we are making an already very good power supply even better,” says Marco Ahrens, Product Manager for DIMENSION products at PULS GmbH. “By combining a high-end power supply, IO-Link interface, and integrated display, the power supply is ready for all current and future automation requirements.”

The DIN rail power supply CP20.248-IOL, as well as further variants with EtherCAT, are now available and can be obtained directly from PULS and authorised distributors.

Growth and Challenges of the AMR Market in E-Commerce

The market for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) in e-commerce is growing rapidly, as companies leverage this technology to optimise their warehousing and logistics processes, meeting the increasing demands for flexibility and efficiency. However, despite their potential, businesses face challenges, particularly regarding the energy supply for robot fleets, as traditional charging systems are often inefficient and difficult to scale. To enhance the efficiency and reliability of AMR solutions, innovative and continuous charging systems are required.

Inductive charging offers an efficient, contactless solution that maximises the operational time of autonomous robots while minimising maintenance requirements by enabling charging during operation. This eliminates charging breaks and downtime, reducing the number of vehicles needed and increasing the availability of the robots through fewer interruptions.

The new Wiferion CW1000 charging system, with a power output of 1 kW, has been specifically designed to fill the gap in compact AMR solutions. With its compact design and the integration of mobile electronics directly within the charging pad, the CW1000 offers a reliable and efficient solution for the needs of small robots. This innovation not only facilitates easy installation but also significantly enhances productivity through continuous and uninterrupted charging.

The CW1000 offers numerous advantages that make it the ideal solution for small AMR fleets. The most important include:

  • High positioning tolerance
  • Maintenance-free operation
  • Quick charging initiation
  • Compact design
  • Efficient and safe charging
  • Simplified installation and standard wiring

These benefits make the Wiferion system the perfect solution to tackle the challenges of energy supply in mobile robotics and significantly enhance the efficiency of the entire fleet.

The CW1000 is the first “wireless product” predominantly manufactured at our own production facility in Chomutov. This marks the beginning of a new era for PULS and our brand Wiferion.

Next level Electronic Circuit Breakers introduced: 4-channel PISA-M

We are excited to announce the launch of our new series of PISA-M 4-channel electronic circuit breakers (ECBs).  These devices are the perfect safety and power distribution tools for applications with power requirements ranging from 90 W to 480 W.

Enhanced system robustness and cost savings

The PISA-M ECBs are comprehensive safety solutions for power systems. They protect system components from over-current and short-circuits as well as wiring from overheating. In addition PISA-M also protects the connected power supply from overload. All protection features together ensure a high system robustness and reliability. This translates into less time spent on maintenance, lower replacement costs and more focus on operations.

Ease of use and control

The digital coded interface provides an easy way for maintenance staff to remotely control the PISA-M modules and to monitor the operational system status. This means power distribution can be managed easily via a PLC and a central user interface.

Space-saving design

With a width of only 22.5 mm, PISA-M is the smallest 4-channel electronic circuit breaker in the market. This compact design means it can fit into any system, freeing up valuable space in the cabinet.

Quick and secure installation

The push-in connectors on the front of the module allow for a quick and tool-less installation, saving time and effort. Plus, with two-colour LEDs that show the status of each output channel in real-time, and a button on each channel for easy on/off switching and resetting, operating the PISA-M is straightforward and effortless.

Customisable to meet specific needs

We provide various versions of PISA-M. The 4ADJ electronic circuit breakers are adjustable, meaning each output channel can be set to the required current value from 1 to 8 A. If a plug-and-play device with fixed currents is needed, PULS offers PISA-M versions with fixed output current settings (e.g. 2 A, 4 A, 6 A, 8 A). This flexibility allows the choice of the version that best fits specific needs, making the installation process even faster, easier, and more secure.
